Very fun for the kids — Good starter train — No motor or track

This is a five star train for kids in the 5 to 8 year old range. Older kids may be more interested in the forthcoming Harry Potter Hogwart’s Express train (4841) or the City line trains (7938 and 7939). The City trains, incidentally, are the only ones that come as complete sets with track, motors and remote control devices.

This is an Old West 4-4-0 steam engine, box car, passenger car, and caboose. I would describe the design as more cartoon-like than realistic, with the engine having exaggerated proportions and the cars a tad short. The set includes no track or motor. It is designed as a push train. The engine uses four new drivers (and comes with two extra un-flanged drivers) as well as a cattle-catcher (a new part). The train cars themselves are small but attractively designed. As with the other new trains for 2010, this appears to be largely brick-built (i.e., few specialized plastic moldings). The set includes Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, Rex, and Evil Doctor Pork Chops mini-figures. The passenger car and the caboose are designed with lift-off tops to make it easier to place characters inside, and the box car has a trap door in the roof. The train is not a difficult build, but younger children will likely need some assistance.

Regarding adding a motor, it is possible to use Lego’s Power Function (PF) accessories to add one, but Lego has not provided directions for doing so. I have not done this yet, but one way is to build a tender that carries a battery, motor and remote receiver. It might be a little awkward given the proportions of the train, but it is doable. These parts are available directly from Lego. I will revise this review when I see someone do a good job of motorization.

Though train buffs will likely be put-off by the design, this set is going to be very, very popular among children. Grandparents, I think this makes a perfect birthday or holiday gift. I do recommend buying track; you need at least two sets of Lego 7896, though consider getting three sets of 7896 and one set of switches (7895). If you want to add additional old west structures, you can add 7594, Woody’s Roundup (which I believe is a scene in Toy Story 2, not 3).

they arrived in one week. absolutely gorgeous. easy to put together. this bed can be used as a crib although we have only purchased it for the use as twin bed. i got two of them for my twins. they are absolutely awesome. thank god for made in THE USA products. my kids love them. i got freckles butterly bedding to go with these beds and it is perfect.

I BOUGHT THIS BED FOR MY DAUGHTER. SHE IS 2 YEARS OLD AND NEVER SLEEPS IN THE CRIB. I PUT IT TOGETHER LAST NIGHT, AND SHE LOVED IT, SHE HAD ROOM TO PUT PICTURES AND BOOKS ON IT. WE READ BOOKS AND SHE FEEL ALSEEP. I COULDNT BELIEVE IT. HER ROOM IS NOT VERY BIG AND IT LOOKS GREAT. I THINK IT IS VERY STURDY. I LIKE THAT THE CRIB MATTRESS IS A LITLLE LOWER THAN THE SIDES SO SHE CANT ROLL OFF OF IT.

This bed is great for any little girl!!
We bought this bed 3 years ago for my daughter when she was 2. She is now 5 and still loves it. It has held up to her and her brother jumping, wrestling, and banging around on it. We started out with a crib mattress and then converted it over with a twin mattress. It was very easily converted. We have had to take it apart a couple of times to move it and it is always a breeze to put together again. If any stains get on it I just clean them off with a magic eraser and it looks brand new. The bed is so sturdy and adorable for any little girls room. The little shelves hold her alarm clock, dolls and books to read at night. When her dad lays to read to her at night he puts the drawbridge down to hold his legs. I believe this to be a great investment for a little girls bedroom, because when she does eventually outgrow it there will be a nice resale value to it ( as is with almost all little tikes and step 2 products).

LOVE this toybox
I bought this toybox for my daughters a few months back and I absolutely love it. It keeps all their books organized and stores almost every toy they own. This toybox is very durable, easy to clean, and the lid won’t slam on little fingers. This is the 3rd toybox we’ve tried and the only one i’d recommend.

This will be around for a while.
I looked high and low for this toy box in my city and could not find it anywhere. I finally purchased one at a moving sale. It is the absolute best solution for toddler toys. My son who is 21 months is able to not only put his toys away in his own space but he is able to lift and close the lid without any assistance. I love how the design has shelves yet is not top heavy. We have the original version (no assembly required-one peice unit). This is is one of the only things we have bought that will grow with our child for the next several years. When our next child is born I plan on getting one for “her” too. Highly recommend.

Great toy box
I ordered this toy box for my grandchildren before Christmas. I wanted it for my kitchen so they could play while everyone else was around. It is strong and holds enough toys for them to have plenty to play with. The top stays up and out of the way yet can be put down when they go home. I also love the 2 shelves for books and stuffed animals. You can’t go wrong with this toy box.

Customer ReviewStep2 Naturally Playful Lookout Treehouse I found 40+ excellent reviews elsewhere on line and ordered this from another retailer who offered free shipping on it. We put it together in about 10 minutes and our 13 mo old was sliding on it immediately. It is for ages 18 mo+ and I think that is probably correct. We are using it in the house until it gets warmer and then will move it outside. We didn’t assemble the periscope but saved the pieces for later. It is very well made and is attractive. I like that there is a platform before you get to the slide and that it can be a fort as well. The slide part disassembles easily for transport. It does require close supervision. We found we could back the ladder to the wall and take off the slide and then it is just a safe fort for when we don’t have time to supervise. We’re very happy with it.

Catan: Cities & Knights Expansion Reviews

This is a fantastic family game. It usually takes a couple of hours to play but you don’t get bored waiting for your turn because things are always happening and you have to keep on your toes.

This is a wonderful, highly addictive family board game. We got the original Settlers for Christmas and loved it so in January we saw this at the toy store and thought we would try it. Well, 3 months later my wife and 10 year old daughter and I are still playing it almost every night. It is a little more challening than “Settlers” and has even more variations and strategy so I would not recommend it for children less than 10. You have to have the original “Settlers of Catan to play. It takes about 20 minutes to learn to play and games typically take 1 to 2 hours. There are all sorts of different strategies to use and because the board varies each time you play no two games are the same. There is some cutthroat potential in the game so if your family is prone to violence you might try something else. On the other hand if you are looking for a fun, challenging game that will get your children and spouse off the computer and television to spend some time together this is highly recommended.

Only up to 4 people can play at one time. Each person picks a set of cards. You have one main pile of cards and 3 individual cards lined up beside it. The rest of the cards you have in your hand. The object of the game is to get rid of all of your cards first by placing them out on the table in order from 1 to 10, matching the right color. Little kids and adults love this game. It is harder for little children to play with adults because they aren’t as fast. I usually try to slow down a bit. When I’ve played with friends and family, there are usually cards flying and hands being smacked as someone tries to put their card down first.

I don’t know if this game is hard to find or not. I live in the Pennsylvania Dutch area and I can find it here but I don’t know about other areas.
