Safety 1st High-Def Digital Monitor Reviews

After a week of fuzz from the Graco Digital Deluxe iMonitor Baby Monitor. We returned it and bought this product on impulse at Target. This monitor is very simple to use and crystal clear. (As I am writing this review I can hear the clock ticking in the nursery.)

Pros:
+One button operation. (Turn on the baby-unit, turn on the parent-unit…done. There is no channel button to worry about.)
+Crystal clear. No static even at max volume.
+Loudest setting is loud enough.
+Lights show level of noise baby is making.
+Neat design. (This may sound weird, but baby monitors are for parents…not for babies. So why do so many of them look like toys?)
+Uses 3 AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries. (So they can be easily replaced if needed. Or if you don’t plug it in, you can just use regular AAA’s.)
+Only one parent unit (If you think you need two parent units, you should try either getting a smaller house or trusting your spouse.)
+Range sufficiently covers our house and yard.

Cons:
-I have my doubts about the belt clip. No problems yet, though.
-There is no charging cradle for the parent unit. So you have to plug in the cord every time. (Not a huge deal, but it would be nice.)

We haven’t had it long enough to speak to its durability and battery life, but for now we are very happy with this product.

Bottom-line: We feel like we can trust this baby monitor.

UPDATE: Almost a year later, this High-Def Digital Monitor is still working great! We have no issues with interference or degrading quality. The batteries still hold their charge. Only complaint is the belt clip because it comes off easily. But this thing has fallen many times onto the hard tile floor and it still works fine.

We’ve owned this monitor for a couple years now, and we think it’s great. The volume is great. There’s no interference. It has a good range. The light’s not been too bright for us (and our child sleeps in a darkened room with blackout shades, etc., so dark does matter to us). The only problem we’ve had with it is that it seems to be possessed. Yes, by a ghost. Of course, that’s not really the case, but the receiver turns itself on ALL THE TIME after we’ve turned it off. We can’t figure out why it’s turning on, but it seems to have something to do with sudden movement. Maybe. Or maybe it’s a ghost. But the thing inevitably is turned on and beeping from deep in our luggage whenever we travel and pick up our bag at the carousel. And maybe that’s why whichever bag containing this monitor ALWAYS arrives with a note in it from the Federal Aviation safety folks telling us our bag was opened and checked. When I travel with the monitor in our diaper bag in the car, we notice this problem the most: the receiver turns on about 80% of the time after I’ve stopped the car, sometimes after I’ve started it. I’ve checked to make sure nothing’s pressing on the button in the bag, and it still happens. Probably a ghost. Yeah, a ghost. So, four stars it is.

Having experienced horrible baby monitors with my first child this new monitor that we bought when baby #2 arrived has been fantastic…. We have owned it since January and I have had no complaints. I have used it both indoors and outdoors and its reception has been great especially for the price. Only feature I would add would be if it had a vibrate feature for when I am outside but for $60 I couldn’t ask for much better. Best part is it doesn’t interfere with the wireless network in our house or any of the cordless phones.

This monitor is completely static free, has no interference and when the volume is turned all the way up, I can hear my baby’s sighs. I have bought two of these monitors; one for my 3 year old’s room and one for my new baby. I love this monitor! Just make sure that you follow the directions about first time battery charge for a longer charge life.
